You know how much I love Yasumi Matsuno’s games? So much. I really ought to play Ogre Battle someday.

Ogre Battle’s more unique than it is good, but it’s still unique enough to be one of my all-time favorites. It’s a shame it didn’t figure into Square-Enix’s plan to remake old games on the DS, because it would have been perfectly suited for that system.
Fight it out!
Liberation!
I tried playing OB and thoroughly enjoyed the first several hours, but it got a little too arcane (remember the days when there was no text to explain what the hell an item actually did?) and my party got too lopsided (core group with hero and a couple of others were great, the rest pretty much got killed instantly). Which made it basically impossible to pull myself out of the “evil” hole since if you Hero is constantly on the front lines that’s how the people see you.
I hear OB64’s more refined, and I think it’s on VC.
