Today’s GameSpite Quarterly 8 post is a little different from the usual. Rather than doing the normal thing of just posting the content here, I thought Wesley Fenlon’s in-depth interview/feature with Richard Honeywood was so good I passed it along to be published on 1UP. So, please to enjoy “This Guy Are Sick: The Rise of Squaresoft Localization” at a different venue than usual. Same great content, but now with professional backing.

That’s all very interesting and awesome, but I have to admit that I’m a little sad that I don’t live in a world where Cactuars don’t ejaculate needles.
This article is fantastic.
congrats Wesley! Great piece.
My Xenogears piece seems like a logical extension of this one.
Go Wesley!!!
If you like this, you should listen to the current episode of the 8-4 podcast as it includes an interview with Richard Honeywood as well.
That’s a cool article. Mebbe I’m missing something, but I seem to recall some post a ways back about all the GSQ 7 stuff being online, and I was looking forward to reading that SaGa Frontier 2 article, to see if sense could be made of that mess. But it does not exist on the site, far as I can make out. And I love me some making out.
Neat.
Don’t know why but I got the bug to replay FF7 recently; I’ve been working through the PC version, which fixes the most famous errors (“This guy are sick” and “Off course!/No, way!”) but still has a “creek in the floor” and tells you to “attack when it’s tail’s up”.
There’s a fan translation in the works but it looks like one of those joyless affairs where the guys working on it are more interested in determining whether the Turks should be named Leno and Yrena than how to make the script fun and the characters likeable.
great article! just got my copy of GSQ8 and am looking forward to seeing it in print.
Jeremy did a wonderful job with the print layout and that version includes some from the games and section titles I came up with. Plus being in print makes everything better!
But I’m thrilled to have it on 1UP and glad you guys enjoyed it.
Very interesting piece. At first I thought that Wes was Cidolfas because of the extreme similarities in Honeywood’s quotes, especially around Xenogears, but maybe not! http://www.ffcompendium.com/h/interview.shtml
