  1. Yeah, I’ve got to admit that GameSpite was a huge inspiration for the new design of my own web site. Seems like you must be doing something right!

  2. This looks is more than three years old and hasn’t adapted well to a lot of the changes the site has seen in that time. It could stand to be a lot cleaner.

  3. Please please please make it retro looking! Not early Internet retro but before the Internet retro.

  4. What are you people freaking out about? I didn’t say “Man, this site needs to be shut down.” On the contrary, I want to keep it viable for future updates.

And no, I’m not making it look like a BBS.

  5. I vote for redesign that makes everything ook like the letters page from 1989-era Nintendo Power.

Lotsa pinks, yellows and geometric shapes all over the place for no discernable reason.

  6. Well, what would you do? Give each category under “recent” it’s own opening folder or something?

  7. I like the site how it is, but it’s added a lot of newer content over time and I do think it could be easier to find all the great stuff on it.
I look forward to seeing how it changes in the future.
Any chance of Wide Screen support? it’s one of the few sites that’s still narrow on my monitor.

  8. I guess I can see it, but I don’t see what’s the hurry. It’s a good blog to say the least. Do you want it looking more like a certain other blog? More like a magazine? Perhaps in a format where you could print out a copy like a magazine? Maybe you could start a topic in the forum to get some ideas rolling?

  9. You could try powering it with a CMS like WordPress or the more flexible Joomla, although you did a pretty good job with PmWiki, so a better wiki platform would certainly make sense. Still, Gamespite has a nice visual design for its age. It doesn’t feel especially dated.

  10. I don’t see anything wrong with it now.

That said, I hope you’d keep the same color scheme if you do intend to dedecorate. Green and orange always go well together.

  11. Yeah, my girlfriend is scared of the front page. She can’t make heads or tales of it. But she can’t tell the difference between Mr. Incredible and Syndrome, so whatever.

  12. Toastyfrog 2D for life, yo. I’ve purposely kept around a copy if IE 4.0 with that cached so I don’t have to deal with this terrible modern era.

    Yes, I’m kidding.

  13. Well, I think you could start by noticing that GameSpite Issue 10 is the most recent one shown in the sidebar. The design is fine, but the site could easily use a little more maintenance. That said, I’m sure your sense of taste will end up making us all happy with the whatever new redesign you come up with.

P.S. Everyone else is freaking out because your readers are made up of people who like to hold on to old things. That’s just kind of how we are. *shrug*

  14. I second that motion, as long as Calorie is reclining like so much “The Man Who Sold the World”.

  15. “Remember the old Toastyfrog was redesigned twice a year or so? Just sayin’.”

Also, it was ugly and poorly-designed. And didn’t consist of two radically different backends intertwined improbably through tenuous, hacked-together XML and CSS. Thanks for your fresh and helpful observation, though.

  16. The side bars of the website are a weird tan color because I use the Windows Classic “Plum” color scheme.

  17. Red text on a bright yellow background is always a crowd pleaser. And don’t forget MIDI, blink tags, and random animated GIFs! XD

  18. I’d like to have all the Gamespite issues on a virtual bookshelf with Toastyfrog reading by the fire. That would be classy.

  19. > And no, I’m not making it look like a BBS

Man, this is probably the only redesign I’d be comfortable with.

  20. I also like how the site looks now and would be sorry to see the slimes go. A couple of suggestions, are to make “Talking” into a hyperlink for the main page of TT, and maybe for there to be an index in list form of all the issues of the magazine, like there is for the most recent one.

  21. Clean up the site as you wish, but would you consider keeping the current color scheme? I think it reads particularly well.

You would definitely do well to compartmentalize the site a little more (i.e.- the archives and the Gamespite issues). Maybe you can replace the faces on the stuffed Slimes with links to portions of the site?
