New Game Plus: Designated downloads for 11/25/08

This is it. The moment every right-thinking Street Fighter fan has been waiting for. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is out this week. And those of you who have PS3s — us, my brothers! — can even download it Tuesday, a day before it’s up on Xbox Live! Oh, and attention to all PS3 BioShock players: Your DLC challenge rooms are ready or whatever.

Sorry Xbox 360 doods. This ain’t your week.

Ninja Bee | Wii | Pull and snap
This reminds me of those segments of Super Mario Galaxy where you pull back on him with the Wiimote and then let go to send him flying, except it looks way worse and the concept has been expanded into a whole game. It’s stuff like this that makes me wish for WiiWare demos -– it might be good, but who wants to shell out the points to be sure? Not I.

Digital Leisure | Wii | Crossnumber puzzle
I know Sudoku is popular and all, but there are like a million of these dang things. You can find them printed on toilet paper. Seriously, that’s a real product that people will charge you money for! So ask yourself: Do you want Sudoku on your Wii, or would you rather wee on your Sudoku? [Editor’s note: congratulations on what might be the first clever Wii joke in years. You’re forgiven for the Forgotten Worlds fiasco.]

Interplay | Genesis via Wii | Ew, gross
Boogers were sort of funny in grade school, but by the time this game came out I was 15 and the funny had lost its mucus-y shine. This may seem hypocritical to say given the potty humor in the previous post, but eh. If you wanna blow your money on this, I guess I can’t stop ya.

Capcom | Xbox 360/PS3 | Mega Retro Revival Redux Champion Edition
First with Bionic Commando, then with Mega Man 9 and now with SSFIITHDR -– the unnecessary exhuming of Commando and 1942’s carcasses notwithstanding — Capcom is really buying whole hog into the retro revolution. I don’t need to tell you to download this. You’re probably already going to, or else you’re cursing your lack of a PS3 or Xbox 360 and all your other lousy life choices.

  1. And for anyone on the fence about SSFIITHDR, how can you say no with this list of features http://www.capcom-unity.com/jimmyrey/blog/2008/11/24/hyper_mega_post_of_super_street_fighter_ii_turbo_hd_remix_for_your_reading_pleasures?num=5&pg=1

This is the version of Street Fighter II we have all wanted since our childhoods (at least for those of us who grew up during the Street Fighter craze, when we all joked if Capcom would ever put a 3 on the end of the title.)

  2. I really want to make a joke about Hohoq (also known as Ar), the land of the Thunderbirds, and T. Hawk. But I just can’t figure out how to do it…

  3. As a 360 owner, all I can say is that I’ve waited this long for it, so one more day won’t kill me! I’ve got my 1200 MS points all cued up and ready to buy it tomorrow! Even with all the great games that have been released lately, this one has me the most excited (I’m much more excited for this than Street Fighter IV). It’s the definitive version of the best fighting game of all time. Thank you, Capcom!

  4. Count me as someone NOT interested in SF 2 HD. I’ve seen the game in motion. It actually seems to have less animation than the original, a game I own a couple versions of, some of which are arcade perfect anyhow.

Maybe if it was 5 bucks, but 15 to rebuy a tweaked version of a game I already have?

No thanks. Maybe if I was a 100 dollars plus joystick owning competitive player maybe, but competitive videogame play is something that fills me with dread and is not my scene.

  5. @captain Rufus:
You are entirely allowed to not be into HD Remix, but I assure you it has the exact same amount of animation as any other version of SFII.
