I was up until about 3 a.m. finishing Catherine last night, which doesn’t mesh well with my body’s insistence that I wake up every day at 7 a.m. on the button. So you will accept that you should read this interesting piece on Silent Hill: Shattered Memories without enticement from pithy remarks in this space, and you will like it.

Catherine must be a darn fine game to keep you up so late on a work night. I can’t wait for next week.
That, and I had two days to review it.
I really enjoyed Shattered Memories, I really should give it another playthough one of these days.
I have plenty of conflicted feelings about Shattered Memories, but at least it wasn’t one of the god awful games mentioned in this article. Funny that the remake feels less like fanfiction than the two games that came before it.
I liked the ice, and I liked that you couldn’t attack enemies, but the story was pretty clunky, especially its awkward handling of “OMG SEX, WOW YOU GUYS, SEX.” The themes of the game make it tough to decide whether eye-rolling sex stuff is appropriate or just plain lame.
Shattered Memories is one of those games that left me feeling dissatisfied after playing it, but still digs a hook or two of positive emotion in me. Reading this article spurred that sense of nostalgia and has got me thinking “was it really that bad?” The therapy report at the end was cute, like your own personal cold reading!
As someone who hasn’t really played any of the Silent Hill games (played a bit of the original at a mate’s place back when it first came out and got freaked out), it’s been a series I keep on meaning to check out. I’m not sure if I should read the GSJ piece now, or wait until I play through Shattered Memories though!
