  1. Wow. That was easily the worst Retronauts episode ever recorded. And I don’t think I’ve enjoyed an episode more than that in about a year. Keep up the good work!

  2. I haven’t been a huge fan of these Live shows, since callers rarely seem to bring anything to the conversation, but clearly an hour of Sonic fanboys (and busted phone connections) who’ve never listened to Retronauts before is just what the doctor ordered.

I laughed so hard, I cried.

  3. Its so awesome to have Ray back. At the same time, the call ins were a train wreck. Has the call quality dropped dramatically with the office move?

I don’t mean to be offensive, but could the show being promoted by IGN and SEGA have resulted in these ‘different’ types of callers phoning in?

Sorry I missed it, I was out pruning Rose bushes during the call in time!

    • I have to say, it was pretty hilarious. I broke out into laughter several times during some of the intensely awkward moments. Your guys’ reactions were priceless.

It wasn’t your fault for the lack of interesting or coherent Sonic discussion, it was the callers. Perhaps this change in “caller type” was due to the bump by Sega and IGN. The ever-present sonar blip in the background didn’t help matters either. I’ve enjoyed the live reincarnation of the show thus far, so don’t let this anomaly of an episode discourage you.

I’m glad Sonic CD and Sonic Chronicles were at least mentioned. Neither game is terrific, but both are good and lesser-known to the majority of game players. It’s worth noting that I also have an older brother who always made me play as Tails back in the day. He used me to fight bosses and would never let me land during the actual progression through the level. It was kind of common practice among dominant siblings in the early 90’s.

  4. these calls are hilarious. i hope you can get ray back for a more “real” episode though.

  5. This episode was anomalous – entertaining, but sometimes hard to listen to. I went back and listened to the recent Chrono Trigger and DQ episodes, which were quite good IMO. So, for what it’s worth, keep it up – I’ve listened to every Retronauts, and I enjoy the call-in format.

  6. I’ve listened to every single retronauts there is and I can say, without a doubt, that that was the most brilliant episode you guys have had yet. Once the calls started rolling, I couldn’t stop laughing. Ricky Gervais would be jealous of the level of awkwardness some of those callers achieved.

    • I mostly flipped between laughing and feeling this soul crushing empathy for you guys.

Still, there were some good jokes, and it was nice to hear Ray again. I consider this podcast a success!

  7. I generally try to avoid making broad generalizations, but it is good to know that everything I assumed about people who like Sonic (gleaned from the legendary insanity featured on old GFW Radio episodes) is mostly true. Or maybe I should say, hilariously true.
