24. Cave Story
I was planning to post this yesterday, but then — by an odd coincidence — Tyrone Rodriguez from Nicalis said he was stopping by 1UP HQ to show me the WiiWare version of the game today. So, I decided to hold off so that I could weigh in on the remake in this post. And the answer is: It’s great! But then, it’s the same game as the one described here, so wasn’t that a given, really?

This article is the bee’s knees.
An awesome write-up!
I only played Cave Story a little bit and never went back to it – not because it was lacking in quality, but because I’m a terrible human being. At this point, I’m waiting for the Wii version – if it ever gets put up!
Great article, though. Definitely made me feel like an even WORSE human being.
I’ve actually been waiting for the WiiWare version too… it’s taking fucking forever. But yeah, when I play retro-style games, it just feels right actually holding a controller and playing on a TV. The arrow keys are no substitute for a d-pad. Here’s hoping it comes out soon!
Beating Cave Story was the last thing i did before my Macbook’s first hard drive stopped working! (week 2 of owning it!) I’m sure it was because i got the worst ending possible, the one that destroys whatever computer you’re playing it on.
I tried playing it again, but i’m kind of afraid of it now. Maybe the best ending gives you a secret code that you can use at any business to get candy.
To Ryan D:
You obviously didn’t play enough shareware PC games as a kid if you don’t feel comfortable with arrow keys. ‘Tis a pity.
