That’s it. I’ve had it. From now on, the crappy shovelware dumped into the WiiWare hopper each week will get nothing more than a paltry mention and a disdainful sniff from me. I can’t think of pithy things to say anymore.
This week we have, what? Snowboard Riot and a digital version of the puzzle game Lonpos. Nnngggeeehhh. And all Virtual Console has to offer is another SMS port of a Genesis game. Sonic Chaos, this time. Where’s the good stuff, third parties? Stop hanging onto it like it’s some kind of sacred treasure. It’s only worth something if you sell it.
Oh, there I go, getting all worked up. Anyway, I’m going to stick with what actually looks interesting. Conveniently enough, the newest XBLA and PSN games fit that bill. Oh, and PSN also has Bejeweled 2 these days.

Tozai | Xbox 360 | Shoot-’em-up
This isn’t a new R-Type game, it’s just a repackaging of the first two installments with a new title and a drab-looking visual overhaul. Still, two games for the price of one ain’t bad.

Sony | PS3 | Tower defense
Customize your defense grid and hope it can take out enough waves of ever-evolving bugs to keep you alive in this take on tower defense. If you like Starship Troopers (the movie) or PixelJunk Monsters, this one should at least be worth a look.
“Where’s the good stuff, third parties? Stop hanging onto it like it’s some kind of sacred treasure.”
Uh… I want to say the same thing to the first parties.
Well, yeah. But the stuff I’m really missing are all those NES and SNES games I wanted to play but couldn’t afford when I was a kid.
Majora’s Mask Please! Come on, Nintendo, I know that you can get it to run on Wii.
Seems like dumping good stuff onto the VC would be free money — of course, they have to pay to get all of this rated, and that can be pricey. Also, I’m part of the problem, as I haven’t bought a VC game since my “fridge” got full. I can’t make myself delete items I paid for. :/
Levi, you know you can just download them again at any time, right?
Actually, Sonic Chaos was only released on the SMS and the Game Gear.
“Where’s the good stuff, third parties? Stop hanging onto it like it’s some kind of sacred treasure.”
You should direct you anger at Nintendo. Third parties have submitted games to be released on VC (they want to make money too) however it’s Nintendo that controls the distribution process.
I remember reading an article over a year ago where a Konami rep was quoted as saying that his company has submitted dozens of games for release on the VC, yet Nintendo wasn’t releasing them for some unknown reason.
You can back them up on SD card too levi.
WHere’s the patronizing ‘I really wish more better games were available for d/l I really do, really truly and honestly……. KEKEKEKE I AM PLAYING DEM FOR FREE ON EMULATION KEKEKEKEKEKKEKEKEKKEKEKKE’ commentary?
killer instinct plz. The first one. Ya know, the one that was in arcades? Is it really that hard to make something like that avialable? Forgive my taste in lame fighting games, KI is a guilty pleasure.
I doubt the arcade KI would even fit in the Wii’s internal memory. Besides, I think Rare has the rights to that series.
Yeah, let’s have a weekly downloads section by a guy who doesn’t care about downloadables!
R-Type 1&2 is 1200 points, that’s pretty hefty for what they are. Meanwhile, Snowboard Riot is a snowboard racing game with Balance Board support… and guns! Yeah, obviously yet another tower defense game is more interesting!
gah, it really is the most baffling thing the big three console companies would be so retarded to create this amazing infrastructure and do little to nothing in taking advantage of its incredulous potential.
I am incredulous at your use of “incredulous”.
Snowboard Riot looks pretty cool, but I’m probably getting R-Type this week for the 2-player mode, and because I don’t currently have it for any other system. I’m probably gonna hate myself later for dropping a whole 15 bucks on it, though…
You guys are dicks this week.+
