Downtime! It has been plaguing the site lately — and it is not my fault. No, the blame rests fully on my host, who seems to be having some widespread issues. Hopefully they’re all better now. But if not, please be patient. (Because I’ve prepaid for about three years’ hosting and I sure don’t intend to move elsewhere.) Obviously the site hiccups have impacted my ability to update, but here is hoping everything is resolved.
My Pokémarathon has paid off in the form of a lovely review. (Disclaimer: May not actually be lovely.) I… am going to keep playing. I may go back and play some of the GBA games. I want to complete my pokédex. This saddens me.
Also, be sure to download this week’s Retronauts. It’s widely regarded as the best ever! Notably, I talked less in this episode than in any previous episode. Is there a correlation between these two facts? I don’t want to make any definitive statements… but, yeah.
Once I finish my senior thesis, I am all about the pocket monsters. I don’t need to catch them all, or anything. I just want them to call me master.
And that’s where they hook you. Anyone with even a tiny shred of completionism in their soul is going to be chanting “Gotta catch ’em all… Gotta catch ’em all…” like a zombie thrall after just a shred of exposure.
That it’s a surprisingly complex strategy game considering it’s marketed to eight-year-olds helps.
The point of catching them all was to fill up your pokedex. Now that you only have to see them, what’s the incentive? I’m just focusing on building a good team with the types I like.
I’m sure as with every other game in the series, it individually tallies Seen and Caught Pokemon. The Seen Pokemon actually has a use now though, since you need to have glimpsed one in battle or the wild or somewhere if you want to get it through Wifi trading. So seeing them makes them easier to obtain this time around beyond just giving you information on where they might be.
Call me old fashioned. But 1up is unviewable with windos 98’s IE6. No, I don’t need a new OS just to be able to read one website. Is there anyone there who has ever heard of the “Any Browser” thing?
Also. I was browsing through my old stuff and found a color gameboy with Pokémon Yellow in it. And it’s like playing Earthbound Zero for NES with pokémon in it. Which is pretty amazing. You should try it Parish, it will appeal to your tastes.
Apparently it wasn’t really a positive review. It was a negative review that you evilly twisted to sound entirely like a positive review.

WHY MUST YOU BE SO EVIL PARISH
I’m going to be pretentious! It’ll be fun!
It seems like this podcast is the best ever to you, Parish for one reason, which is actually two. You have a few super-especial-guest-interview-panel-guy(s). These one time only guests have a distinct advantage over some of the regulars in that they have a much greater ability to relate personal stories. The regulars know that they need to have a few stories for each topic, and so, carefully budget their childhood for the amusement of the listners (or, you could just be shy. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt). This helps you doubly appreciate and enjoy the cast, becuase most of the material is new and novel to you. You enjoy it more, because more of the podcast is a surprise for you. Not to mention, your guests were no slouches at dorkery.
Not one mention of Rygar. That hurts. A lot.
“Call me old fashioned. But 1up is unviewable with windos 98’s IE6. No, I don’t need a new OS just to be able to read one website. Is there anyone there who has ever heard of the “Any Browser” thing?”
I agree, I can never read 1up news or articles with IE because it gives me an Ad error or something. I just keep refreshing until the page loads correctly (6 or 8 tries most of the time).
That happened when I was using my old computer with Win98 and it happens with my new PC too. I’ve also gotten the same errors reading 1up news on other people’s computers.
I think 1up is indirectly propagating the change-IE-to-firefox movement :P
ReyVGM: Yeah, I think that what’s more ridiculous is that I am able to see the ultra bloated IGN.com and gamespot.com/gamefaqs.com without any issues at all.

In MSIE 7 it takes me about 3-4 refreshes before almost any page on 1up.com loads.
bobservo: I hear you man. It’s as if they really want people to switch to Firefox, or the webmaster is William B. Ziff, Jr. Because that website has the level of crappy design that can only come from shear ineptitude or pure nepotism.
And it has ever been thus, but I don’t think bitching at the features editor is really the way to get it fixed.
R^2: Chill man. It’s not like I said the features editor had anything to do with an obvious technical issue or even that I wanted it fixed. But you Internet kids are so lovably tribal that you wanted to defend your little friend from what you thought was an aggression. How cute. I love you.
Sunshine Superman… just go away, will you?
He’s gone. I sink too much time and money into this site to let it become a breeding ground for anonymous net-tards. You’d think 4chan would be big enough to contain them all, but it seems not.
what a great episode.
Kenji Eno mysteries uncovered at last!!!
